Cryptshow 20th Anniversary

The Cryptshow Festival is a fantastic- horror film event held annually in Badalona, Barcelona, celebrating fantasy, horror and cult cinema. This year, the festival celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The animation is based on a character who grows old throughout the piece, using ageing as a visual metaphor for the passage of time and the festival’s long history. The final line, “20 anys se’ns ha fet curt”, plays on the Catalan double meaning of curt: both “short” and “short film”. In English, it could be adapted as “20 years felt short - like a short”, keeping the wordplay connected to cinema.

The piece is rich in cinematic and cult references, reinforcing the festival’s distinctive freak, playful and horror-loving tone. This combination of nostalgia, dark humour and homage to classic genre cinema creates a memorable tribute to 20 years of Cryptshow.

I created the animation using Wacom Cintiq, Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe After Effects and Blender.
